The sights and sounds of our daily runs.

Why wait for the New Year?

I did it... got back on the wagon, back on the horse, or to be more accurate, back into my running shoes. It did take some coaxing and prodding from my running partner, Ward, but we agreed that today would be the day we would begin... again.

It's been 2 months since my last run. Wow... just typing those words out makes me feel like I should be standing in front of a group who only know each other by their first names. But, boy, does it feel good to get that out in the open! on a first name basis of course.

We really couldn't have pick a more beautiful morning for a run. Clear blue skys greeted us with everything covered in white, the remains of freezing fog from the night before.  Up here in the Northwest we've had the driest December in 30 years, it seems like a waste not to take advantage of it, even if it is only 23 degrees outside!

Ward and I agreed to meet up at Cook Park for some nice flat running on paved paths, with a little bit of trail mixed in. Since we were only aiming for a couple of miles I brought Max, my chocolate lab with us. Max isn't much of a runner, at least not yet, but with Ward and I basically starting at square one it seemed silly not to get Max back on the wagon with us. So...Max, Ward, and myself set out on a nice 2 mile loop through the icy park. It felt good! I had forgotten how much I enjoy running in cold weather, with my legs and face going numb from the cold, but yet still warm enough to sweat, being able to not just hear my breathing but to see it as well. It was definitely a sweet run this morning.

Thanks Ward.
